Arbitration * Mediation * Special Master * Consulting

Overview

Arthur L. Smith, recently retired after practicing law for nearly 40 years, is concentrating on providing services to aid in resolution of complex commercial disputes through arbitration, mediation or consultation.  He also serves by court appointment as a special master in appropriate cases.

He believes that through early intervention by a mediator, many disputes can be resolved with the need for litigation or arbitration and, in many cases, business relationships saved from the disharmonious effects of litigation.

Mr. Smith has acted as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and the NASD (now FINRA) in a wide variety of commercial settings and has mediated complex disputes.

He is nationally recognized as an expert in e-discovery matters and has appeared frequently before national, regional and local audiences speaking on a wide range of topics involving complex litigation and electronic discovery.

He is the co-author of “E-Discovery Survival Guide for Corporate Counsel”, a nationally syndicated article that first appeared in St. Louis Lawyer, and “Are You Ready for the E-Discovery Alarm?” which appeared in the October 2007 issue of the ABA Business Lawyer magazine. Among other honors, Mr. Smith has been recognized among the Best Lawyers in America and the Best Lawyers in Information Technology. Mr. Smith is also honored in Who’s Who in American Lawyers. Mr. Smith also serves as a special master for electronic discovery disputes in federal litigation.
